A two day installation and exhibition during the day and a mixed program of performance and music during the night on the topic of collective memory and interim use.
Is remembering something I do, or is it something that happens to me ?
Five years from now, will I walk from Hardbrücke to Escher Wyss Platz without tasting Vodka Mate on my tongue and feeling an imaginary bass tingling in my fingertips? Will I have forgotten the smell of that foreign brand of cigarettes that made me want to give up smoking? The same way that I have already forgotten about the large white linens that used to hang to dry in the very same space I spend my friday nights?
The Zentralwäscherei is a spatial mosaic made up of memories, visions for a future, stories and experiences of people. Some of which have worked here a lifetime, others gave their first concerts, others again spent their saturday nights losing their friends in the crowd or making new ones in the toilets.
Join us, as we explore this subjective and fleeting perception of our surroundings and the interim uses of spaces in our urban and personal environment. The two day wash cycle at the Zentralwäscherei Zürich brings to life the different opinions, personal experiences and artistic interpretations of the topic of collective memory and spatial remembrance.
Reusing space is like doing your laundry.
Pre-wash 14h00 - 19h00
During the day an exhibition on interim projects juxtaposes past, present and future memories of the city. This allows for the negotiation of our collective memory and an effort to reclaim the power of subjectivity in the spaces we inhabit.
Main-wash 19h00 - 23h00
In the evening the space transforms into a stage for performances and musical, theatrical or movement-driven explorations of our spatial remembrance. During this period we get to rewrite, add and alter our perspectives and understanding of our environment.
Spinning 23h - 01h00
As the wash cycle comes to an end we will process our new memories by dancing them off together.
