Public space is interwoven by relations of power and norms: social gender relations are inscribed in spatial structures, spaces are gendered. Spaces are not naturally given, but constructed through social processes.

Exclusion, Expanding, Experiencing—Exploring Feminism in Public Space is an interactive three-day programme on March 21st, 25th + 26st. Over the last months we have invited various contributors to ask questions, find answers and collectively develop this programme. We start on Tuesday the 21st of March with a feminist wandering cinema! Together we walk from Zentralwäscherei via Park Platz to the Zollhaus. Everyone can take part in the cinematic discourse or just hang out and drink tea together.

On Saturday the 25th of March at 4pm the exhibition will be opened with a vernissage to introduce you to collective projects the Designathon supports and accompanies in Zyklus I: Feminist film projects, audio installations featuring Zurich organisations, including an audio installation by Blackbox, visual documentaries and space for dialogue. Throughout, the space will be activated by Lea Bongni’s and Marina Klein-Hietpas’ (CIVIC) intervention Sirupbar. Join us at 7pm for an Apéro and exchange, accompanied by sounds from NDLOVU.

On Sunday the 26st of March, we open the room at 12am and continue our programme at 1:30 pm with a visual city exploration of Kreis 5. In the afternoon we meet at 3:30pm for the finisage and apéro!

The project Feminism in Public Space is supported by Urban Equipe, a funding project
of Engagement Migros.
