We often move through our daily lives, where our body and mind are in states of complete separation. Sometimes we are fully in our heads, and sometimes only in our bodies. You may experience periods of depression, over thinking, stress and anxieties where it feels like your body is a secondary extension, an extra part. On the other hand you may be stuck in your body. Chronic back pain, shoulder tension, or heaviness everywhere.

Dance is a powerful way of achieving synchronisation of the body and mind, and is accessible to everybody. Everybody has the ability to move naturally, where the only boundaries are each individuals physical limitations which are part of your natural individual movement. In contemporary dance, you are taught how to move with your entire body, and to understand that one movement or impulse will have an effect and flow through the rest of your body. You understand how gravity and your bodyweight play hand in hand together for moments in which they attract or repel. With your mind you bring attention to your entire body and learn to move freely through physical and mental space.

I will guide a series of dance classes inspired by contemporary, ballet and performance dance. They are accessible to people of all abilities, mentally and physically. With each class we will aim to achieve synchronisation of the body and mind. I will be there to help dancers recognise areas of resistance or tension and bring awareness to them. From my personal experience, it can be as simple as noticing tension in one small area of the body that needs to be released. It is amazing how the recognition of a tensed area and its release opens up the entire body to move freely into the desired movement. As dancers build this awareness of their entire body and how to move with intention, the expression of their movement becomes unique, free and natural. And most importantly, this freedom and flow in movement can be applied to many aspects of daily life.
