QUANTUM DREAMS

In the "subconscious" of an artificial intelligence

QUANTUM DREAMS is an immersive spatial installation by New Media Artist Robi Voigt and Generative AI & Data Scientist Tobias Wursthorn, created in collaboration with artificial intelligence (AI). Visitors immerse themselves in the creative process of an AI that generates its own images based on a digitized artist archive. Trained with over 8500 paintings and drawings by a Swiss artist, the "machine learning" algorithm generates a sequence of thousands of new images emerging from each other. This process of image creation can be seen and experienced in QUANTUM DREAMS as an animated, constantly changing visual landscape. The visitors find themselves in the control center, the "subconscious" of the AI. Like in a dream, strokes, motifs, colors, shapes and patterns appear, change and disappear again, yielding recognizable images or remaining in abstraction. A second artificial intelligence, a language model, comments on and interprets the resulting images. The digital texts and images overlap with the viewers' ideas about the process of image creation, their aesthetic preferences and visual observations. QUANTUM DREAMS is an audio-visual experience that makes digital creativity tangible in the form of a walk-in machine dream.
