Every Friday in July, MiZik unplugged takes over. From intimate concerts to open jams, each week brings a new sound, a new voice, and the perfect way to ease into the weekend. See you there.

Maelle Yena (vocals) and José Joaquín (guitar) are an intimate and poetic singer-songwriter duo. Having grown up in Chile and Switzerland respectively, they have been shaped by different cultures, social environments and life experiences. Through songs in different languages, this project creates space for diverse perspectives, opinions and approaches to life, music and lyricism. They see this diversity as the product of the varied experiences and circumstances that have shaped their personalities. In her search for insight and possibilities for social change, Maelle Yena continually engages with philosophical questions concerning truth, peace and the nature of the self throughout her creative process. At the same time, the songwriter explores the direct experience of her own healing journey, which, in her view, extends beyond the individual and contributes to collective transformation. José Joaquín, meanwhile, dedicates his songs to questions of orientation and perspective. In contrast to more intuitive and embodied approaches, he seeks answers through contemplative reflection. Interpersonal encounters and exchanges often serve as the source of many of his compositions. At the heart of some songs lies the question of how we, as human beings, can develop a sense of contentment and sufficiency. José Joaquín enriches the programme with compositions influenced more strongly by jazz and rock traditions. The songs are written in Spanish and English. In a polarised world, they wish to embody the belief that differing perspectives and opinions need not divide us. Rather, they can open up a field of creative tension that fosters growth, inspiration and dialogue—if we are able to listen to one another with empathy. With their duo performance at MiZik Outside Unplugged, they create an intimate musical space that encourages dialogue, reflection and connection.
