The film portrays the Bolivian architect Freddy Mamani, who founded neo-Andean architecture. Mamani, who comes from a humble background and belongs to the Aymara people, has created over 60 unique buildings in the high-altitude town of El Alto that contradict the modern architectural trends influenced by the Bauhaus. The focus is on the colorful “cholets”, extravagant houses with banquet halls that make a striking cultural statement.

The film shows 25 striking buildings by Argentinian architect Francisco Salamone, including slaughterhouses, town halls, squares and monumental cemetery portals. These were built between 1936 and 1939 in the province of Buenos Aires and are an expression of a unique mixture of modernist architecture and the specific requirements of the Argentine province.
